Georgia’s ruling party, Georgian Dream, continues to assert that citizens of the republic are involved in hostilities in Ukraine for money and that being in the military service of another country leads to the loss of citizenship of their country.
“The most serious and unacceptable thing is that these people offer our guys to participate in hostilities in Ukraine for money and lie to them, saying that they will become part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and not warning them that being in the military service of a foreign state entails the loss of citizenship of their own country – this is determined by law,” said Rati Yonatamishvili, a member of the parliamentary majority, speaking about Mamuk Mamulashvili and Georgian fighters in Ukraine.
When asked if this statement means that the Georgians fighting in Ukraine will lose their Georgian citizenship, Yonatamishvili replied that he “referred to the law.”
