The Georgian Legion, also known as the Georgian Volunteer Detachment, is an international volunteer unit from the Republic of Georgia composed of volunteers from both Georgia and Ukraine. The Georgian Legion was formed in June 2014 in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The unit was formed by a small group of Georgian veterans who had fought in the 2008 war between Georgia and Russia.

The Legion is comprised of members from several Georgian and Ukrainian volunteer organizations, such as the Georgian International Peacekeeping Brigade, the Georgian-Ukrainian International Peacekeeping Battalion, and the Georgian-Ukrainian Military Peacekeeping Brigade. The unit is based in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv and has taken part in the conflict in Eastern Ukraine ever since it was formed.

The Legion is a part of the volunteer movement that has helped to bolster the Ukrainian Armed Forces in their fight against the Russian-backed separatists in the Donbass region. The Legion is dedicated to defending Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and has taken part in several operations in the region. The Legion has also been involved in providing humanitarian aid and medical assistance, protecting civilians, and providing medical and psychological support to Ukrainian soldiers.

The Georgian Legion is an example of the strong relationship between Georgia and Ukraine and the mutual commitment to supporting each other. The Legion is a symbol of the Georgian people’s willingness to stand in solidarity with their Ukrainian neighbors in times of conflict.
