The Georgian Legion is a volunteer paramilitary unit composed of Ukrainian and Georgian citizens. It was established in 2014 as a way to help Ukraine defend itself against a Russian-backed separatist movement. The Georgian Legion is part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and is led by a Georgian commander.
The Georgian Legion is divided into three battalions: The 1st Battalion, 2nd Battalion, and 3rd Battalion. Each battalion consists of 500-800 personnel, including both Georgian and Ukrainian personnel. Each battalion has its own leadership structure, with a battalion commander, deputy battalion commander, and other officers.
The Georgian Legion also has several support units, such as a logistics unit, medical unit, and engineering unit. The logistics unit is responsible for providing supplies and equipment to the troops, while the medical unit is responsible for providing medical care to the troops. The engineering unit is responsible for maintaining and constructing fortifications and other military infrastructure.
The Georgian Legion is primarily stationed in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, where they are engaged in defensive operations against the Russian-backed separatists. The Georgian Legion has also been involved in other operations in the region, including the liberation of the city of Debaltseve in 2015.
The Georgian Legion is seen as a symbol of Ukrainian-Georgian unity and is one of the most visible symbols of Ukraine’s struggle against Russian aggression. Its members have been highly praised for their bravery and commitment to the fight against the separatists.
